Pease, Addison
Birth : 1846 in Binghamton, Broome Co., New York
Death : Washington,(State)
[joan'sfam.FTW]

Addison Pease (first husband of Margaret Wright) "kidnapped" his son Wallace (Ettas brother) in approximately 1880 (see notes under Etta Pease) and eventually moved to the state of Washington - probably the Spokane area. He may have married again. The families kept some contact with each other Sue Pease Ellingson (Addisons great granddaughter who lives in Redmond, Washington) has information on the Pease family. Addison (at age 4) was listed in the 1850 Binghamton, Broome Co. NY census. This is consistent with listing of age 29 in the 1875 New London, Minnesota census. His parents were Benjamin P. Pease, b. 1817 in NY and Lucinda, b. 1819 in NY.

Sue has a contact on the internet, Wayne D. Burgess 2ccmail.orl.imco.com who says that all of the Pease in New England directly descend from two Pease brothers, John and Robert who immigrated to Salem, MA in the 1600's. (His source was "A Genealogical and Historical Record of the Descendants of John Pease, Sen" by Rev. David Pease - the only Addison in that record was an Addison Pease born at West Leyden in central New York. John went to Enfield, CT and Robert to Marthas Vineyard after his wife and family were jailed for religious activities. There are still several Pease houses there. In England theyre traced to Robert Pease: "The Smythe" born c. 1485 in Great Baddow, near Colcester (Essex). Information can be found in a book by Phillip Rice which is a Genealogical and Historical record of the Pease Family in America.

There was a Jonathan Pease living in Paynesville, Stearns Co., MN c. 1869 (near New London/ 1870 census) Age listed as 31, (b. 1839). Is it possible he is a brother or relative of Addison Pease? Joan Schuette's grandson Ross's elementary school principal is named Alan Pease. Joan spoke with him and he verified the two brothers from England story. Alan Pease' family came westward from Ohio and settled in the Rio, Wisconsin area.

Sue Ellingson has a postcard with a picture of a house in MT. Vernon, WA with people in front of it. Her notes say that this is Addisons sister Mary Etta and that she was the post-mistress there (there is Marietta in the Keturah Wright Steelman family). Is it possible that (Mary) Etta Pease Johnson was named after her fathers sister (and not Marietta, Ohio)? Sue Ellingson has gathered much more information about the Pease family - in some of her information Wrights, Pease and Tildens are living in same town/areas in New England.

Another conjecture relates to a Laura Pease grave (1842-1867) which Joan found in the Church of Christ cemetery at Concord, Dodge County, MN (also a son Fredie 1866-1868) both in the same section, where Keturah Wright is buried. Joan believes Addison could have been Laura's husband may have been in Concord and that's where he met Tildens and Wrights and subsequently went to New London after his first wife died. This needs to be verified. When Joan searched land records in Dodge County, MN, there were no Pease listed in sections she looked at near the Tilden/Wright tracts.

(Update, September, 2001). Joan and Robert Corkins searched several cemetery records in the Spokane and Bonner Ferry ID area for a plot for Addison. Although other Pease (his descendants) are buried in cemeteries in Spokane, none was found for Addison.

Joan (Schuette) is somewhat arbitrarily listing Laura as Addison's first wife. It seems to be a distinct possibility. The conjecture is that they were living in Concord and there met the Wright's. Possibly after Laura (wife) and son Fredie died, Addison went to New London, MN and there married Margaret Wright. Laura's birth date is two years before Addison's.
