Robert Corkins, great grandson of Edwin Steelman has records of the Steelman ancestors and descendants. Joan has copies in her file. Robert believes Edwin and Kate (Keturah Wright) Steelman were the first 'Wright' family to come to Idaho. He mentions the Blackfoot Indians were in that area.
Per his death certificate, his death date was December 5, 1916, age 59 yrs, 2 mos, 7 ds. This calculates to a birth date of September 28, 1857. This agrees with my grandmother's records. However, his tombstone shows the birth date as 1854. -- Robert

Keturah must have been named for her paternal grandmother as was common in those days. She is listed in Minnesota state census of 1875 in New London, living with her parents. Joan keeps in touch with Robert E. Corkins who is descended from Keturah. His mother also lived in Arvilla, North Dakota (apparently next to William and Mary (Tilden) Wrights' property and has her listed in the 1880 Orange Twp, Grand Forks, North Dakota census. Keturah and Edwin Oscar Steelman moved to Northern Idaho and eventually Spokane, Washington (c. late 1890's). She was a school teacher in Kandiyohi County and was the first teacher of the Norway Lake, MN school (see appended notes). Joyce Swanson (Joan's sister) remembers family members referring to her as "Aunt Kate".
