Notes from Ella Mae (Johnson) Bennett's scrapbook: Urban and Maude were married in Almira sic (Elmyra) New York in 1923. They were in vaudeville on the Orpheum Circuit in the show "Spirit of Mardi Gras". In 1925 they were living in Kenosha, Wisconsin. In one of George and Etta's visits there, they mentioned him "playing" - presumably in a band or musical. Joan remembers them only as living in Chicago. Uncle Urban was in charge of sound effects for the radio station WBBM in Chicago. Urban and Maude did not have any children. When they visited us at Green Lake they would take me shopping and treat me like I was their daughter. I remember they always sent my sister and I very elegant Christmas presents.

Update: Browsing newspapers in Red Wing (DRE), August 3, 1920. "Urban Johnson, Trap Drummer with The Spirit of the Mardi Gras, has been in Red Wing visiting his parents . . " (Article also said the show would now be touring Western Canada and was very popular in the U.S.)
